Chickens & Dog Spaghetti

Er, that would be dogs, and chicken spaghetti. I'm joining up with the dog lovin' people at Dogs on Thursday this week, which basically means I get to go on and on about my dogs and you can't think any less of me. Well, you can, but I hope you won't.

So, what do you think of Pepper's new 'do'? I tried to get him to stand up on the floor so I could show you the weenie dog in him, but he wouldn't get out of this chair. Pepper pretty much does as Pepper pleases. His body is long and skinny looking, just like a weenie dog, but he has a poodle head. He'd gone so long between groomings that I had them cut him as short as possible, otherwise he'd look even more poodle'ish.

We definitely need to buy him a new collar. What's up with a hot pink collar on a boy? No wonder he's always looking sheepish.

He is a handsome boy, is he not?

Okay, enough about dogs, it's time for The Recipe Swap Box. Once a month, on the first Thursday, Randi, at "i have to say... " hosts a recipe swap on her blog. All who wish to participate post a recipe on their blog, and sign the Mr.Linky at Randi's. We can then visit each others blogs gathering new recipes, and maybe even new friends!

This month's Recipe Box Swap theme is Pasta! Since I procrastinated and didn't get around to typing up one of my recipes, it may appear to some that I'm cheating by linking to a recipe at the Pioneer Woman Cooks blog. Is there such a thing as plaguerizing a recipe? If there is, then P-dub did the plaguerizing, 'cause I've been cooking the same Chicken Spaghetti dish she shares on her site since she was in diapers.

The only thing I do differently than PW when making the Chicken Spaghetti is that I omit the chicken washing step. You read that right. I do not wash my chicken prior to cooking. I read a couple of years or so ago that it's not a necessary step, as the cooking process will destroy any surface bacteria; besides, you run more risk of spreading the salmonella around your kitchen by washing it. Anytime I'm cooking chicken, I wash my hands frequently with hot water and soap, and sanitize all areas where I've had the chicken, in case anything dripped or splashed from it on the counter.

And for the record, no one's ever gotten ill from eating my chicken spaghetti. I was kidding with the plaguerizing remark. I wouldn't want to offend PW, considering I hope to some day win one of her awesome contests. ;-)

I said that was enough about dogs, but I couldn't do a dog post without including Leyna, who is once again, dazed and temporarily blinded by mommy's flash. That's my son's hairy arm in the picture, lest you thought I needed to start shaving.

If you'd like to join in on The Recipe Box Swap, go here; or if you'd just like to read all the recipes that have been posted.

If you'd like to join in the fun with Dogs on Thursday, go here. Or just go around seeing everyone else's blogs... dogs...blogs with dogs!

I think Pepper is just embarrassed of the new "do." When he gets used to it, he will be more cooperative posing for pictures.

Hi, Welcome to DOT. Your dogs are just adorable! That face on Pepper is especially cute. I hope you have a wonderful week. Happy DOT.

When I was a kid eons ago, we had a lovely farm dog. Except when we posed for photos. She would pose with us but always put on a sheepish, embarrassed expression as if she just knew she wasn't going to look good in this photo either! LOL

Pepper is a very handsome dude. I do agree he'd probably like a more masculine collar.

Hello! Welcome to DoT and thanks for stopping by my blog earlier! Your babies, Pepper and Leyna, are so cute! My rattie is shy like Leyna is... funny little things, they are!

I love seeing people's dog photos. And baby photos:)

I read the same thing about washing chicken and haven't washed a piece since. It makes a lot of sense, and there's less handling involved, too.

I'm so glad that's not your hairy arm. For you. I'm glad;)

ROFL!! What a great sense of humor you have. I love this post.

Your dogs look very contented. I doubt whether Pepper cares if his collar is pink as long as he's got a cool burr haircut for the summer, and that looks like a good one.

Thanks so much for the recipe. I'm definitely going to try it. I love spaghetti of all persuasions. (You've inspired me to stop washin' my chicken.:) WTG!

Oh,no,you started a revolution. "Viva, Stop Washing Your Chicken!" I wonder if that domain name is already taken? Fun post.

Why, lookee there...I picture of Renna. I have known you for 8 years, lady....8 years!!! Now you decide to share your photo?? I think I am offended that you would share your lovely face on your blog, but not on the Swap...I'm gonna go change your profile on the Swap...Cause, I have the power...Oh, the rush of knowing that I am in control and you are helpless to stop me!!!

NOT WASH THE CHICKEN?!?!?! Girl, I do think that is some crazy talk! :) Your argument makes sense though that it is just spreading more germs. My family laughs at my obsession with the Lysol can as it is!!

Love the dog pics and you have GOT to stop finding fun things for me to join!

Don't think I can break the habit of washing my chicken (just thinking of all the hands that touched it), but there's always a handy bottle of alcohol for clean up or in case something goes wrong with the recipe you can just jugalug with real whiskey or something (this is coming from someone who can't stand the taste of hard alcohol)lol x a bazillion.

blessings to you and the puppies,
marcy

Loved this, Renna. I keep wanting to do Dogs on Thursday, but I forget! Pepper is cute and his name fits him. Or her.

I don't your pup likes his new 'do! He looks like he is trying to hide in that second picture. Too cute!

I don't wash chicken either. Really, i never knew I was supposed to!

Cute pie pooches you got yourself there Renna!! I could read about your pups every day and never think less about you. I would be one to talk huh? LOL

I've never made chicken spaghetti. I'll have to check out that recipe. (I never wash my chicken either)

They are both cuties!

Brooke said...

And I thought you were going to end it with "guaranteed to put hair on your chest AND on your arms."

HA!

Don't you just love PW's recipes? If only I could prepare them in a fancy shmancy kitchen like hers! And if only I had cows and wild mustangs peeking in my window while I cooked. :) And if only the recipes I made turned out looking like her lovely photos, and if only I had jadite to serve them on. Okay, enough. At least I have the legendary chicken spaghetti recipe, and that counts for a lot.

Your dogs are cuties. That little Leyna looks like a corker! :) Thanks for sharing on Recipe Box Swap.

Renna, remind me which of these two dogs is the "newcomer". They are both so sweet. That chair sure looks comfy so I understand why the dog didn't want to get out of it.

Awwwww!!!!! Pepper is sooooo cute! Looks shy and loveable, for sure! And the chicken spagetti sounds just wonderful! I'm looking for something "new" to try --- I'm getting tired of the same old, same old all the time!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!!

We're leaving here shortly to shave every last hair off one of the two golden retrievers. GR #2 is in next months budget for dehairing! And I'm with you - washing chicken - pshhaaaaa! Seriously about any chicken I cook is tossed in the crockpot the night before, and the next morning I scoop it out in pieces to do whatever with.

Thanks for sharing a great pioneer woman recipe. (I don't rinse my chicken either) I think I've missed that one! I LOVE her.

I love Pepper's new "do"- he looks so sweet! But yes, definitely more of a manly collar is in order.

I LOVE any kind of pasta- my body goes through a HORRIBLE withdrawal if I don't eat Italian once a week.
(Er... Italian FOOD- not eat an Italian...)

The best part about coming over here today to say hello to you is seeing your very own face smiling at me. I liked the doggie in the picture before ... don't get me wrong. But it is good to see you instead. I love it!

Thanks for your sweet comments. And I have to say, all your sweet doggie pics at the front of your post were fun. I wish I could snuggle with them.
